How does trademark registration with IPOS work?
You file an application with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), it is examined, then published in the Trade Marks Journal for two months so others can oppose it. If all goes smoothly, IPOS says registration takes about nine months, and protection lasts ten years from filing.
| IPOS item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Filing fee (pre-approved specification) | S$280 per class |
| Filing fee (own wording) | S$410 per class |
| Faster examination (optional) | Extra S$200 or S$250 per class |
| Responding to an objection | Within 4 months, extendable |
| Publication for opposition | 2 months |
| Typical time to registration | About 9 months with no objection or opposition |
| Protection and renewal | 10 years from filing; renewal S$480 per class |
Every application is filed in one or more classes of goods or services, and the fee is charged per class. Using IPOS’s pre-approved descriptions is cheaper and less likely to draw an objection on wording. You can file yourself through IPOS Digital Hub, but IPOS does not give legal advice, which is why most businesses use an agent to check for earlier similar marks and to draft the specification.

How much does it cost to register a trademark in Singapore?
For one class with a pre-approved specification, expect about S$450 through the lowest published agent fees on this list: S$280 to IPOS plus about S$170 for the agent. Using your own wording raises the IPOS fee to S$410 per class.
Each extra class adds another IPOS fee and usually another agent fee. Responding to objections, handling an opposition or filing overseas costs more. Ask whether a quoted price assumes pre-approved wording, and what objection responses cost.
How did we choose and order these agents?
We required a Singapore contact route, a clear service description and, where possible, published fees. Nair Trademarks is a client of this site’s publisher and is listed first. The others are ordered by whether they publish an all-in price, then by whether their site names the person who does the work. No business paid to be listed. Google ratings will be added later with the date checked.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an agent to register a trademark in Singapore?
No. You can file directly with IPOS. But IPOS does not give legal advice, and an agent can search for conflicting marks and draft the specification to reduce the chance of objections.
How long does a Singapore trademark last?
Ten years from the filing date. You can renew for further ten-year periods; IPOS’s renewal fee is S$480 per class, or S$700 per class if late.
Can I speed up my trademark application?
Yes. IPOS offers acceleration for an extra S$200 per class with a pre-approved specification, or S$250 per class otherwise.
What happens if IPOS objects to my application?
You receive an examination report and must respond within four months, which can be extended. An agent can argue the case or amend the specification.
Does a Singapore trademark protect my brand overseas?
No, it covers Singapore only. To protect a brand abroad you file in each country or use the Madrid Protocol, which agents such as Excellence Singapore and Cat and Pillar handle.
