Why do Singapore families hire Indonesian helpers?

Agencies describe Indonesian helpers as strong in home cooking, childcare and infant care, and general housekeeping, and many families value that the helper learns household routines and dishes quickly. English varies by candidate, so interview before you choose.

Sapphire Maids lists childcare, cooking and housekeeping as the usual strengths and notes that many of its Indonesian candidates speak workable English, though it varies. Upwill describes Indonesian helpers as skilled in Asian cooking and in gentle, patient childcare and eldercare. Bliss Helper lists housekeeping, cooking, childcare and infant care. These are agency descriptions, not guarantees about any one person, so use the interview to test what matters to your household.

Which Indonesian maid agencies did we pick?

Each agency below places Indonesian helpers and publishes its licence or company details. Facts are taken from each agency’s own website, checked on 3 October 2026. Always confirm the licence on MOM’s EA Directory.

From each agency’s website, checked 3 October 2026. Fees cover different items, so ask for a written breakdown.

These figures are not like for like: some are agency fees only and others are total costs. Ask every agency for an itemised quote showing the agency fee, the helper’s placement costs, insurance, medical checks and any loan the helper is repaying. MOM’s levy is S$300 a month for a first helper, or S$60 at the concessionary rate for households with a young child, an elderly member or a person with disability.

What MOM rules apply when hiring an Indonesian helper?

Indonesia is an approved source country. The helper must be aged 23 to under 50 when the Work Permit is applied for and have at least eight years of formal education. First-time employers must complete MOM’s Employers’ Orientation Programme first.

You must also buy a S$5,000 security bond, which agencies usually arrange through an insurer, and a first-time helper attends MOM’s Settling-in Programme after arrival. MOM requires agencies to offer a refund of at least 50% of their service fee if employment ends within the first six months.

How did we choose and order these agencies?

We required regular Indonesian placements, a published licence or company details, and clear information on fees, training or timelines. Sapphire Maids is a client of this site’s publisher and is listed first. The others are ordered by how central Indonesian placements are to their business, then by whether they publish fees or cost guides: agencies that place only Indonesian and Myanmar helpers come before those that place three or more nationalities. No business paid to be listed. Google ratings will be added later with the date checked.

Frequently asked questions

What is the salary of an Indonesian maid in Singapore?

Agencies on this list quote from S$550 a month (Jayamaids) and S$550 to S$780 (Upwill), depending on experience and skills. Agree the salary in writing before the Work Permit application.

Is it faster to hire a transfer Indonesian maid?

Usually. Upwill states one to two weeks for a transfer helper already in Singapore, compared with six to ten weeks for a fresh hire from Indonesia.

Are Indonesian helpers trained before they arrive?

Most fresh helpers are trained before departure. Bliss Helper states at least 40 days of training in household tasks, and Sapphire Maids says its fresh helpers are trained before arrival. Ask each agency what its training covers.

Can an Indonesian maid care for an elderly parent?

Yes, many do. Upwill describes Indonesian helpers as suited to eldercare as well as childcare. Tell the agency about any care needs early so it can shortlist candidates with relevant experience.
